IVS Website is getting warmer...
03/04/08 08:46
Hello all, I am still trying to get something on line
for everyone. It seems the last version I had was
mostly of images and content that has since passed.
In the meantime, I have been putting together some
basketball videos with the help of Allison's mom who
shot much of the footage. She was also responsible
for providing many of the basketball pictures that
have been included. Thanks a bunch!
I'm sure all the students will hear much over the coming weeks about my trip to Tampa for Spring Training and I'll be sure to share some of the pictures I took with them. I am looking forward to hearing how everyone else's vacation was.
As you may know, many of our students were successful at this year's Science Fair at Albany. I was very proud of many of the students who worked hard throughout the unit. I know many of you parents were helpful as well when we were getting close and we had a school cancelation. We appreciate your help with the projects, car pooling, and supervision. Most of all I appreciate your patience with the judging process. I have also heard some concerns from parents that I will be sure to share with the other science teachers in the district the next time we meet in April.
Coming up for curriculum, in the sixth grade we will be studying the characteristics of waves. Specifically, we will be studying the properties of waves and how they interact. We will apply this knowledge to the properties of sound and light, the electromagnetic spectrum, and reflection and refraction.
In the seventh grade, we will be looking at Earth as the Water Planet. We will discuss the properties of water and then study water on Earth with a focus on surface water and wetland environments.
In the eighth grade, we will begin with exploring the microscope and then begin an exploration into cells. We will be doing a chapter project similar to one that won a ribbon at this year's science fair. We will be using the results of this project throughout the chapter to identify the parts of a cell and define the functions and differences between plant, animal, and bacterial cells. Finally we will learn about the cell in its environment.
I will try my hardest to keep everyone up to date and these entries may just end up being daily assignments which I know will be of help to some.
Please use this to provide me with any feedback regarding the site, or if you want to help, or if you have any other questions. Of course you may contact me at school or by email.
This is exciting and with your help we can make this site beneficial to everyone in the community!
That's all for now,
Mr. Wallace
