Hello again! I hope you remember to bookmark our new
permanent site. We are on our new server and hopefully
we will be able to update the site more often. We are
still gathering content and I have new images to post
and soon we'll have some videos of our successful
basketball teams. Go Eagles!
The sixth grade has been working hard on our study of waves. We all enjoyed an online wave simulation (http://phet.colorado.edu/new/simulations/sims.php?sim=Wave_on_a_String) that allowed us to adjust and see the effects of amplitude and frequency on transverse waves. There will be a test on Tuesday, April 1.
In the seventh grade we are continuing our unit on Earth as the water planet. Lately, we have been seeing how communities around the world have been treating and conserving water. All the students completed a home use water survey which we will graph. We have already discussed ways we can conserve water around the house and some of the students are reporting that they are taking action around their own homes to conserve energy, water or recycle. We even have some student volunteers up at the recycling trailer to help with the sorting on Saturday mornings. Way to go seventh grade!
The eighth graders have finished their "Egg-speriment" which involved soaking an egg in various liquids to discover how a cell behaves in its environment. I think the best part was cutting into the membrane to see what the "nucleus" looked like at the end of the experiment. We also looked through the microscopes to see a variety of plant and animal cells. We are continuing our study of cells and there will be a test on Tuesday, April 1.
We had a fifth grader who recently took home a first place blue ribbon at the annual Lyndon State College Regional Science Fair. Her study of water filtration impressed the judges and was a fine example of using the scientific method. Her project also was a prize winner at the local Albany fair. We are all proud of her efforts.
Please keep the comments coming and we'll see you soon!
